“A toxic system”

I am interested in education issues. The school system is constructed to produce identical people, for certain jobs. The students must know three things: they must have good handwriting because everything is handwritten, be able to do multiplication, division, addition and subtraction in their head. The sad thing is that we still produce identical people, but we don’t need them anymore. The scholarship as we know them today are obsolete. We don’t need them anymore, because they are outdated.

This is a bag I decorated. I bought some materials from “The Ink Well”  (ART SHOP) and they gave me a bag from the shop. The bag has the brand name on it. What I did is to write a caption saying “If school doesn’t teach you how to draw, buy some talent from the shop.” The idea was that if the school system fails you, you should try succeeding by yourself.
I created two very similar sculptures, only one of them is with used materials and the other one is with brand new. For the second one, I created labels to hang on to the art materials. I wrote really high prices on them. If I could redo it right now, I would put labels on both of the sculptures. I would put really high prices on the one with the used materials and really low prices on the brand new. I realized that with the used material I have created value; they have history and feel natural in the hand, not like the brand new ones which feel odd and uncomfortable. The two sculptures represent two kinds of people. The used materials symbolize people who realize their abilities and the new ones are the people who don’t use their abilities.
